This branch is fairly big for a branch library and has a children's section. The children's section is not separate from the rest of the library. There are not any toys other than the boxes to check out, although there are a few computers to play on and sitting areas to read to children.
The stereotype of libraries being a quiet place is also outdated. Children are welcome to talk and have fun in the children's section at libraries!
The Southwest branch usually has a music 'n motion program on Tuesday mornings, and the librarian who is usually in charge is fantastic. There are a few other programs for children throughout the week. You can check the programming schedule for this branch at this link. *The library takes a programming break in the months of May, June, and December so there are normally few programs offered these months* There are several of their programs in the calendar under events. The summer reading program is also a great way to get kids excited about reading.
Al Rollins Park just opened up next door, be prepared for your kids to ask to play at the playground if you visit this branch!
