Halperin Park is a lovely new park that is part of an initiative in Dallas to reclaim concrete spaces in the city to add green spaces where the community can gather. There are several phases planned and currently phase 1 is open! The park has trails for walking, an amphitheater, a restaurant, food trucks, several splash areas, and a great playground.
The playground has a couple of different areas for different abilities. Some of it is definitely geared toward older, more adventurous children who are confident in their climbing ability. There are also smaller areas designed for younger children. A great aspect of this park is it is made from a lot of natural materials, including lots of wood, which makes it better suited for hot days to not scorch skin. There are slides, see-saws, musical instruments, and obstacle course playscapes. The ground is rubber, which is nice but if you take off shoes to play in the water be aware the it gets hot quickly.
The playground is gated off, though some of the gates remain open. There are bathrooms right next to the playground, as well as additional bathrooms, including a family bathroom, near the restaurant.
There are 3 different splash areas in the park. There is a waterfall in the playground, splash fountains right outside the entrance to the playground, and splash fountains next to the amphitheater. Be prepared for your kids to get wet if you visit the park!
There is a cool skydeck that you can walk up to next to the stairs right outside the playground or walk up the ramp that is next to the playground exit.
The park is designed to engage the community, and there are plenty of events that happen at the park which you can check out here.
You can park at the Dallas Zoo, there is a gate with a sign overhead indicating Halperin Park to walk through and down a sidewalk to get to the park. Just be aware of the hours the lot is open. There is also plenty of street parking on the other side of the interstate.
This is a great park that everyone will enjoy!
