Al Rollins is a lovely new park that is right next to the Southwest Library. There is tons of equipment for the kids to play on and it is an accessible playground. The park also has a walking trail and open green spaces. There is a ton of fun equipment packed into a small space!
The park is clearly designed to be highly interactive with loads of climbing. There are several slides of various heights, a turf tunnel, swings, merry-go-round, see-saw, and spinning chairs. The figure 8 play feature is the same one as at the new Katherine Rose playground in Mansfield. There are several different kinds of swings for all ages. There is a roller slide attached to a turf hill. The ground is a combination of rubber and turf, making it perfect for all kids. There are some small rocks around the park.
There is not a lot of shade at the park, the trees haven't had much time to mature. Definitely prepare before coming during the summer. The library is the perfect place to take a break from the heat!
Because of how much climbing is involved, other than the swings, merry-go-round, and see-saw the equipment is really better for 2+. There are benches throughout the park, picnic tables, and a water fountain. Bathrooms are only available when the library is open. Also note that the tunnel sculpture says that you're not supposed to climb on it. An interesting choice for a playground. There is a small drop if your kids climb through the tunnel into the ditch, so be aware if your kids are playing in them.
Be prepared for kids to want to play at the playground if you visit the Southwest Library!
Fountains are turned off in late November/early December and turned back on in late March/early April to prevent serious freeze damage.
